The Choral Concert: What to ExpectThe winter season is upon us and winter break is slowly creeping up. As this season approaches us, we can count on some fabulous upcoming musical concerts. The choir concert is on December 14th and many amazing groups including the Madrigals, the Women’s Choir and the Men’s Choir will be performing. All of these groups are filled with immense talent. The new schedule allowed for more rehearsal time as well. Dhruthi Reddy ’18 says, “The new schedule helped us a lot because now we get to practice four times a week for a good forty minutes each time. Last year, we did not get to practice nearly as much. Madrigals is one of my favorite classes because at the end of the day and after all the stress, singing lifts my spirits and makes me feel refreshed.” This year we can expect more difficult and exciting pieces from our marvelous choirs. To open the concert, the Women’s Choir and the Men’s Choir are joining forces to sing “How Beautiful this Silent Night” and “Hear the Bells.” The Men’s Choir is doing a variety of pieces this year. The songs they are performing include “Gabi Gabi”, a South African spiritual that uses percussion, “Amor Vittorioso”, a traditional Italian a cappella piece, “She’s Got a Way” by Billy Joel, a classic ballad, and “Jingle Bells”, a four-part barbershop-style version of the classic holiday song. The Women’s Choir will be performing the American classic “Dream a Little Dream of Me”, the Simon & Garfunkel hit “El Condor Pasa, and the English folk songs, “Deo Gratias” and “Greensleeves”. The Madrigals will be performing a very Holiday themed repertoire performing songs such as, “Deck the Halls”, “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”, “The First Noel”, and more classic Christmas songs. In addition, they will be performing a few Latin songs and Hebrew songs. One Latin song is called “Veni, Veni, Emmanuel.” This concert will be a real treat to enjoy and will get us into the holiday spirit. It is also a great way to show support for our fellow classmate and appreciate all of the hard work they put into it.
