NYCC 2016Every year, the perfect gathering of nerds and geeks takes place in Manhattan. The three floors of the Javits Convention Center become the perfect haven for these experts on comics, video games, television, and movies. At Comic-Con, people from all walks of life and of all ages travel throughout the Javits Center to do just about anything pertaining to the world of “geekery”. On October 8, 2016, my sister and I found ourselves once again wading through the thick crowds that Comic-Con brings to New York. For the third year in a row, we had packed our bags and readied our wallets for the adventure. We went on Saturday, one of the busiest days of the four-day event. It is the day that’s chock full of panels, crawling with celebrities, and stuffed to the brim with artists from near and far. Sumaira and I had learned—through our years of experience—to get to the Javits Center early if we wanted any chance at seeing all we wanted to see in just one day. Joining us were the hundreds of people, dressed in civilian wear or decked out in amazing costumes. All of us crowded outside the center, waiting for the clock to strike 8 A.M. so we could enter. A jam-packed day awaited every fan that shoved their way into the building. Some highlights of such an extraordinary event like Comic-Con can be found in the little moments. Moments like seeing moms and babies dressed in matching costumes, meeting a brand new artist and meekly requesting a photo, or even pressing together with other fans in the crowd to try to catch a glimpse at the celebrity passing by. It is a truly crowded event because it is such an amazing experience. You can walk through the Artist Alley and buy all the art your heart desires, or to get a sneak peek at all the latest information on your favorite shows and games. It’s something one should always experience if they find themselves interested in this often-fantastic world of geeks and nerds.
